Map Sources

Built from the original public GIS layers researched by Hana Katz and Yicheng Xu in summer 2019, using historical records at the Ellis Island Library and the National Archives in New York. Layers were drawn in ArcGIS and documented using National Park Service metadata standards.

Hana Katz & Yicheng Xu, Summer 2019. Professional Services Division, Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island National Monument.

Each year is a separate historical dataset, not a continuous reconstruction. Building heights are stylized for display; footprints come from the GIS files. Historical source accuracy varies. This is a portfolio experience, not a current visitor-access map.

USDA / USGS The National Map. Contemporary aerial reference, not a photograph from the selected year. Historical map alignment varies by source.

No utility or archaeological-sensitivity layers are included.
